Health Bureau of Nantou County Government was found as Nantou County Hygiene Yuan in 1950, and thereafter changed as Health Bureau of Nantou County Government by Taiwan Provincial Government in 1962. Affiliated Tuberculosis Preventing Institute was found in November of 1959, and was renamed as Chronic Disease Control Center in 1989. In addition, some of employees was transferred to work for Environmental Protection Bureau to meet the escalating needs for environmental protection affairs in July 1st, 1991. Currently, there are 13 public health centers and 47 public health rooms, cooperating with the headquarter to implement public health works. Meanwhile, under the excellent leaderships of successive magistrates and commissioners, and with the help of all employees, the performance on every public health affairs have been kept recognized and rewarded by superiors in recent years.
Although this county was struck by a destructive earthquake on September 21st of 1999, Department of Health, Reconstruction Committee following 921 Earthquake Disaster, and Red Cross Society have appropriated special funds to rebuild public health centers in Ren-Ai township and Sin-Yi township and several public health rooms such as one located in Jin-In Village, etc.. Nowadays, with the feature of social justice and helping the vulnerable, our health policy endeavors to eliminate health gaps among races, genders, ages, wealth, and culture differences. In addition, from the perspectives of health promotion, disease prevention, rehabilitation, and long-term care, we work hard to provide community-based, integrated holistic healthcare services and welfare, to reach goal of ˇ§Living healthier and healthy lifeˇ¨.
